Pagoda 
| This
seven-story, 21 meter (69 feet) high Tower of good
Fortune and Beauty was built in 1844 under Emperor Thieu Tri, at the command of
prince Nguyen Hoang, the governor of Hue. Thien Mu means
" pagoda of the heavenly lady, the goddess Mu" The Thien Mu pagoda attained a tragic fame on June 11 1963, when Thich Quang Duc, a monk living in the monastery there, committed suicide in a street in Saigon( Ho Chi Minh). He set himself on fire protest against coercive measures that the hated President Ngo Dinh Diem (1955 - 1963) had imposed upon Buddhists, and helped to bring about the collapse of anti-communist Diem regime. |

| Chua Huong pagoda was built in honor of Quan Am, the female spirit who protects mother and children. According to legend, a woman called Quan Am was unjustly turned out by her husband, publicly humiliated, and accused abandoning her children; she ended her life in a convent.
